Forest School offers all our children regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or a natural environment with trees.
Each of our settings has received a five-figure investment to landscape the grounds and create a stimulating, child-centred outdoor learning environment that promotes playing and exploring, active learning and critical thinking.
Children have day-long – and free – access to the Forest School environment, in addition to taking part in activities led by our qualified practitioners.
As Communication and Language is one of the three prime areas of the EYFS, we provide activities that require listening and attention, understanding and speaking, and support the expression of thoughts and feelings through first-hand experience.
Campfire-building helps children to enhance their health and selfcare learning – identifying what they need around them to keep safe from the fire, as well as their mathematical skills.
Our three-year-olds have learned not only how to build a fire from scratch, but also how to deliver a safety talk to their peers!
Forest School education is provided to all children at our Warrington day nurseries at no additional cost to parents
Children are taught how to use tools safely – including hammers, saws and spanners. They are also encouraged to be imaginative and to explore their surroundings – using natural resources found in the garden to paint and create their pictures.
Forest School is particularly effective as a learning tool to engage children who struggle with Maths and English. Some children like to write their names using a pen and paper, while others prefer the outdoors and writing their names in the mud; Forest School is about giving them the freedom to learn in a different way.
We have measured the impact of the Forest School provision on the children’s learning at Latchford, and 98 percent of all children are achieving in all areas of the EYFS.
Forest School Parties
Choose from a range of party themes - including 'Superheroes', 'Fairies and Elves' and 'Dinosaurs', as well as much-loved tales ‘The Stick Man’, ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.
Held in our ‘big forest’ at The Cheshire Day Nursery @ Winwick on Hollins Drive, Warrington, each party includes one hour of forest-based activities such as den building, which are led by a fully-qualified Forest School Practitioner. All theme-related props are provided free of charge.
Partygoers will then help to build a campfire before sitting around it together to eat their packed lunches, as well as to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to your child while they are presented with their birthday cake.
Free popcorn and marshmallows are provided for toasting, so children can enjoy the thrill of campfire cooking! (Grown-ups are welcome to try this activity too!)
Our parties are suitable for up to 12 children who are all aged 3 and up (the minimum group size is 10 children). Cheshire Forest School parties take place all year round and in all weathers, but we just ask that children wear their wellies and woollies during the winter.
The cost is £10 per child, and parents must provide their own packed lunches, birthday cake and party bags (if they wish to). There is free on-site parking and free hot drinks for adults, who are welcome to stay at the nursery.
We welcome your questions and the opportunity to be a part of your child’s very special day! Please use the form below to contact us, or give us a telephone call.
